I missed out on the sad news about Chuck Brown’s death earlier this month. It didn’t get the attention it deserves in the mainstream media. That said, just like everyone else, great artists die, but they have their legacy keeping them alive in the minds and hearts of others.
For me personally this is a very important tune. I heard it when I was around 14 years old and was mostly dabbling in Detroit Techno, House and Hip-Hop. I heard it at a club and just like a proper piece of ass, the groove and sounds immediately grabbed me by the balls, and followed up with my heart. From that moment on I started digging for Funk in the second hand stores around town (and my stepdad’s collection).
Chuck Brown, who is considered the godfather of D.C’s Gogo-funk, kept making music till his death at the age of 75.
Just so we dont forget while breaking houses down: “Breathing, breathing, just keep breathing!”. Pretty sick remix of Spring Offensive’s very British Indie pop tune ‘Worry Fill My Heart’. Cubiq P45 delivers a nice snappy production with well placed vocals, a good break and a super cool Rhodes riff.
Organic electronica with a long build and some very dynamic and scratchy beats. The beat at the start is taking very long but keeps varying in all sorts of cool subtle ways. I love the atmosphere drop at 03:45, this is what really makes the tune, and its a bit too short.
And back again, and back again, and back again… Just one of the many cool touches Alkalino added to Millie Jackson’s great disco track. It should be clear by now im really enjoying a lot of this man’s edits and he keeps dropping them at an incredible paste (mostly for free, check out his soundcloud and subscribe!).
Amazingly trippy and haunting track by Tennis. The bassline is amazingly forceful and sounds beautiful with the layered bass voices and the vocals just add a great, emotional atmosphere and message. The EP also contains an awesome remix of no one less than Larry Heard
As a little homage to the recently passed away Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees and because this edit just rocks! Great cut-up of Bee Gees’ ‘Love You Inside Out’ by Gazeebo. He stripped it down to the two best parts of the song; the amazing synth/vocal stabs and the catchy verses, all wrapped up with an awesome punchy and loud sound, making it into a very effective and funky speaker pleaser.
Tune is available for free at soundcloud.
Proper debut album on Rush Hour from the man who’s name has been circulating forever in “the scene”. With his wild appearance, some cool remixes and EP’s and original, sometimes insane. dj-sets, you could speak of a cult entity here.
The ‘Animal’ LP features a variety of cool deep, sometimes techy and sometimes funky and organic vocal tunes with this little acidized stomper being amongst my favorites. Def worth checking out.
Awesome stripped down version of Armentas & Majik ‘I wanna be with you’.
The Spanish DJ/Producer Desibelios is touching just the right spots and laying down a great vibe. Check out the rest of her soundcloud as well, it contains more cool edits.
